What is the difference between a DIRCO Apostille/authentication and a Notary High Court Apostille/authentication?
A DIRCO Apostille or authentication is issued by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation. It accepts original public documents for Hague Countries, and original public documents and Notary High Court authenticated documents for non-public documents.

A Notary High Court Apostille is issued after an admitted Notary Public has notarised your document and the High Court has authenticated the notary's signature. The correct process depends on the type of document and the country where it will be used. We will advise you on the appropriate option before we proceed. It is best for you to also check with the person or institution requesting these documents from you.
How long does an Apostille take?
A Notary High Court Apostille is generally completed within 1–3 working days.

A DIRCO Apostille is completed within 1–2 weeks, with submissions taking place every Wednesday and typically being ready the following Wednesday.
Can you assist if I live outside South Africa?
Yes. We regularly assist South Africans living abroad.

Documents can be couriered to our office, consultations can be conducted online where appropriate, and completed documents can be returned anywhere in the world using DHL or your preferred courier.

Do I need to send the original documents?
It depends!

Whether the original document is required depends on the type of service and the requirements of the receiving authority. Before you courier anything, we first ask that you send us clear scans so we can confirm the correct process.
Which countries accept Apostilles?
Countries that are members of the Hague Apostille Convention accept Apostilles.

Countries that are not members usually require Authentication through a Notary and the High Court, DIRCO followed by Embassy Legalisation.

If you tell us the destination country, we'll advise you on the correct process.
Can you assist with Home Affairs documents?
